The Department of Agriculture (DA) has created a technical working group to strengthen farmers’ participation in free trade agreement negotiations.
The group will consult agriculture stakeholders to identify their needs and interests and help formulate goals for trade agreements.
It will also participate in drafting agreements to ensure that the interests of the agriculture and fisheries sectors are considered.
The TWG will be chaired by DA Undersecretary Paz Benavidez, with DA-Policy Research Service Director Ma. Ronely Bisquera-Sheen as vice chairperson.
The move comes as the Philippines pursues new trade deals, including agreements with the European Union and Canada and an amendment to the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement.
