COMELEC REPORTS 34 ALLEGED ELECTION VIOLATIONS AHEAD OF MAY 12 MIDTERMS

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has received 34 reports of alleged election-related violations, including 23 instances of vote-buying and 11 cases of abuse of state resources, ahead of the May 12 midterm elections.

Comelec Commissioner Ernesto Maceda Jr. stated that these reports began coming in before the official election period.

He anticipates that Metro Manila will continue to lead in vote-buying reports, as seen in previous elections.

Maceda noted that public awareness of electoral rights could be contributing to the higher number of reports in the National Capital Region.

In the 2022 and 2023 elections, the Comelec recorded over 1,600 complaints related to vote-buying.
