Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez filed House Bill No. 7230 to provide informal settler families (ISFs) with a P3,500 monthly rental subsidy for temporary housing.
The proposed Rental Housing Subsidy Program aims to support families displaced by natural or man-made disasters until their permanent homes are ready.
Eligible beneficiaries must vacate informal settlements and move to safer, government-authorized areas, with DHSUD and NEDA determining rental rates outside Metro Manila.
The subsidy acts as a flexible safety net, giving families access to decent housing, jobs, and schools while awaiting permanent solutions.
Romualdez said the measure aligns with the Constitution’s mandate to provide affordable housing, joining other initiatives like monthly pensions for low-income farmers and free electricity for low-consumption households.
