COMELEC ALLOWS BARANGAY, SK LEADERS TO SUPPORT POLITICAL CANDIDATES

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has confirmed that all elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials can engage in political campaigning activities for the May 12 elections.

This decision follows a Supreme Court ruling, clarifying that the prohibition against civil service employees from participating in elections does not apply to elected officials.

However, the Comelec stated that these officials cannot solicit contributions from subordinates or engage in acts prohibited under the Omnibus Election Code.

Additionally, non-civil servant government workers, such as job order and contract of service employees, are also permitted to campaign.

The Comelec also issued a warning to the National Book Store (NBS) over the display of “election material essentials” which could be linked to vote-buying activities, urging the store to take corrective action.Source: PhilNews24 | March 22, 2025
