COA FLAGS MALACAÑANG OVER P14.4M UNCOLLECTED TRAVEL EXPENSES

The Commission on Audit has flagged the Office of the President for failing to collect nearly P14.4 million in foreign travel expenses advanced for other government agencies since President Marcos’ term began in 2022.

COA noted that the OP initially covered airfare and hotel costs for officials joining Marcos on overseas trips to 11 countries in 2024, but did not secure reimbursements.

Debtor agencies include the BIR, the Departments of Agriculture, Finance, and Foreign Affairs, among others.

Auditors recommended stronger billing procedures, formal agreements before trips, and improved monitoring of unpaid receivables.

Malacañang said it has already collected 55% of the total and issued demand letters for the remaining balance, committing to full settlement.
