The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) raided an alleged unauthorized mining operation in Bacong, Negros Oriental, on February 21, arresting five individuals.
The operation, which lacked proper permits from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, violated the Philippine Mining Act.
Authorities confiscated three dump trucks with sand, boulder minerals, and mining equipment valued at PHP1.3 million.
The suspects, identified only by their first names, are all residents of Negros Oriental.
The CIDG emphasized that illegal mining depletes and endangers the environment and natural resources.
