The Philippine Senate has approved the naturalization of Liduan Wang, a Chinese national residing in the country since 1991, despite concerns over his alleged ties to offshore gaming operators (POGOs).
Sen. Risa Hontiveros opposed Wang’s citizenship, citing his undisclosed connections to the 9 Dynasty junket group and questionable business dealings, including listing himself as Filipino in corporate documents.
She also raised concerns over Wang’s multiple tax identification numbers and possible links to the Chinese Communist Party’s United Front work.
Sen. Francis Tolentino defended Wang, arguing that his junket operations were legal and that his Filipino listing was an accountant’s error.
The measure passed with 19 votes in favor and one against, but Hontiveros has urged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to veto Wang’s naturalization.
