The Supreme Court has ordered the transfer of qualified trafficking charges against foreign nationals working for a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) from the Capas Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Tarlac to a Pasig City court, as requested by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.
Remulla’s request highlighted the high-profile nature of the cases and their impact on national security, aiming to prevent undue influence and ensure fairness.
The charges arose from a March raid on Zun Yuan Technology, a POGO facility in Bamban, which led to several arrests.
The DOJ will continue to prosecute the cases with integrity, and additional charges will be filed against dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo and her associates.
The transfer decision reflects the SC’s commitment to upholding justice and addressing potential national security concerns.
