The Philippines is gearing up to establish training facilities for esports athletes as the industry gains traction on the global stage.
Marlon Marcelo, Executive Director of the Philippine Esports Organization, revealed plans to collaborate with the Philippine Sports Commission to develop these facilities.
Currently, athletes face challenges due to the absence of dedicated training centers, often relying on corporate teams or rented spaces.
Marcelo emphasized the importance of stable internet connectivity for effective training. The government has also initiated the “Unity League,” offering amateur esports players the chance to compete for a substantial cash prize of P1 million.
Initially, the focus for establishing training facilities will be in Metro Manila, with specific cities being considered for their internet capabilities.
