Senator Christopher “Bong” Go expressed deep concern over the plight of earthquake victims in Pandan Mahawak, Cebu, who were forced to sleep outdoors using plastic bags for shelter after the recent magnitude 6.9 quake.
He called the situation “painful and unacceptable” and urged immediate aid from local and national agencies, including tents, food, and water.
Go highlighted the need for permanent, disaster-resilient evacuation centers, citing his authorship of the Safe Filipino Centers Act.
Beyond relief, he is pushing for structural reforms such as the creation of a Department of Disaster Resilience and long-term housing support through proposed rental subsidy programs.
He stressed that disaster response must go beyond short-term relief to ensure dignity, security, and continuous support for affected families until full recovery.
