The annual Traslacion of the Black Nazarene drew nearly 700,000 devotees by midday Friday, according to Quiapo Church officials.
The largest crowds were reported at Ayala Boulevard, Quiapo, and the Quirino Grandstand, with the image of the Black Nazarene reaching Carlos Palanca Street by 1 p.m.
The procession began before dawn at the Quirino Grandstand, with hundreds of thousands walking as the image was returned to Quiapo Church.
Manila authorities noted only slight variations in crowd estimates compared to church tallies.
Attendance is expected to grow throughout the day, with previous celebrations drawing millions of devotees.
