The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed criminal cases against former DPWH officials Henry Alcantara, Brice Ericson Hernandez, and Jaypee Mendoza, collectively known as the “BGC Boys,” for P1.6 billion in unreported income and tax deficiencies from 2020 to 2024.
The trio is linked to fraudulent government flood-control projects, and BIR investigators cited their lavish lifestyles as evidence of undeclared income.
BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. said the cases were based on financial investigations, property records, and the officials’ Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs).
The charges include tax evasion, willful failure to file, and providing inaccurate information on income tax returns.
Lumagui emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and may expand to other contractors and officials.
