Bacolod Rep. Albee Benitez said over the weekend that calls for a change in House leadership are growing amid public distrust fueled by the controversy over flood control projects.
Benitez stressed the need for a Speaker with integrity and credibility who can restore confidence in Congress and hold accountable those involved in anomalies.
He noted that while Rep. Toby Tiangco endorsed him as a possible successor, any leadership change must be a collective decision of the majority in the chamber.
Benitez admitted that many lawmakers see the problem but remain silent, adding that the current leadership’s position is becoming untenable.
He said it is only a matter of time before a transition in House leadership happens.
