Fashion designer Avel Bacudio has been named the official outfitter for Filipino athletes at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, with his “Laro ng Lahi” collection debuting at the opening ceremony on December 9.
The collection, designed in collaboration with the Philippine Olympic Committee and Department of Science and Technology, features innovative Piñavel fabric made from indigenous fibers like pineapple, abaca, bamboo, banana, and water hyacinth.
Bacudio incorporated traditional Filipino games, such as Tumbang Preso and Patintero, into embroidered Barong Tagalog designs, while the trousers honor regional weaving traditions.
The sustainable, high-performance collection blends cultural heritage with modern textile technology, symbolizing national pride and supporting Filipino artisan communities.
Around 300 Filipino athletes and officials will wear the outfits as the country competes in 574 events across 50 sports at the SEA Games in Bangkok and Chonburi.
