Former senator Leila de Lima called for the urgent passage of an “anti-troll farm law” following Senator Francis Tolentino’s revelation about China’s alleged involvement in influencing Philippine elections.
During a Senate hearing, Tolentino exposed that the Chinese embassy had contracted Infinitus Marketing Solutions to run troll farm operations, utilizing “keyboard warriors” to push its agenda.
De Lima emphasized that the need for such legislation became even more critical after the exposé, warning that foreign influence and deception should not be tolerated under the guise of free speech.
She also urged a congressional hearing into Infinitus’ activities and the use of troll farms.
The National Security Council later confirmed that China is conducting a state-sponsored campaign to interfere in the upcoming midterm elections.
