Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice delivered a fiery privilege speech urging President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Vice President Sara Duterte, and fellow lawmakers to support an anti-political dynasty bill, saying it was the only true test of their commitment to fight corruption.
Erice called on Marcos to certify the measure as urgent, noting that political dynasties have perpetuated patronage politics, pork barrel abuse, and systemic corruption for decades.
He also challenged Duterte to uphold the Constitution by ending her own family’s grip on power, stressing that genuine reform requires personal sacrifice.
Addressing his colleagues, Erice said it was time to “cut the excesses” of political clans and pass long-overdue reforms mandated by the 1987 Constitution.
His bill seeks to limit to two the number of family members who can simultaneously hold public office, a move he said would restore fairness and integrity in governance.
