ALYANSA TARGETS PASSAGE OF NATIONAL LAND USE ACT IN 20TH CONGRESS

The Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate has committed to passing the National Land Use Act in the 20th Congress if they win in the May 12 elections.

During a press conference on March 22, key members of the slate, including Rep. Erwin Tulfo, former DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos, and ex-senators Vicente Sotto III and Panfilo Lacson, emphasized the urgency of the measure, which has been delayed for years.

Tulfo warned that without the law, agricultural lands would continue to shrink due to land abuse by buyers, leading to negative impacts on food security.

Abalos highlighted the rapid loss of farmlands due to development, which is affecting rice prices and food production across the country.

Sotto and Lacson both stressed the need to protect agricultural lands, with Lacson proposing revitalization of unused land through local government interventions.
