12,000 COPS TO SECURE MARCOS’ SONA AMID PROTEST ASSURANCES

The House of Representatives announced that it is 90 to 95 percent ready to host President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 28, with contingency plans in place in case of bad weather.

Around 1,500 guests are expected in the Session Hall, with designated overflow viewing areas prepared for others.

House officials, together with other government agencies, have conducted a walkthrough of the Batasang Pambansa to finalize logistics and security protocols.

PNP chief Nicolas Torre III assured the public that protest actions will be allowed, but activities like effigy burning must secure permits to avoid violating environmental laws.

Over 12,000 police personnel will be deployed, with no major threats detected so far and a potential gun ban still under review.
