The World Health Organization (WHO) wrapped up its executive board meeting, which was overshadowed by the United States’ decision to begin its withdrawal from the agency.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed disappointment over the U.S.’s reduced participation and urged reconsideration of the move.
In response to funding concerns, the board recommended a 20% increase in membership fees to reduce reliance on major donors and ensure financial stability.
The meeting also addressed global health priorities, including emergency response in Palestinian territories, mental health, and universal health coverage.
The board’s resolutions will be finalized at the World Health Assembly in May.
