VICTIM ADMISSION PROPOSAL FILED FOR DUTERTE’S WAR CRIMES TRIAL

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has received a proposal outlining the victim admission process in the crimes against humanity case against former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

The ICC Registry suggested using the “A-B-C Approach,” classifying victims into three groups based on eligibility, with applications undergoing assessment before pre-trial proceedings.

Lawyers representing victims emphasized the importance of participation in seeking truth and accountability, encouraging more victims to come forward.

Meanwhile, former Bayan Muna representative Neri Colmenares argued that Duterte’s chances for interim release are slim due to flight risks and potential interference with witnesses.

ICC spokesperson Fadi El Abdallah clarified that Duterte’s surrender was a decision made by the Philippine government and that the court retains jurisdiction over alleged crimes committed before the country’s withdrawal from the Rome Statute.
