VICE MAYOR CHI ATIENZA PROPOSES PRAYER ROOMS AND ‘HALAL TOWN’ FOR MANILA’S MUSLIM COMMUNITY

Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza announced two key initiatives for the city’s Muslim community during the Islamic Assembly (MOLTAQA) on September 20.

She revealed plans to establish designated prayer rooms in public spaces like malls to provide respectful and accessible worship areas.

Atienza also introduced the concept of a “Halal Town” to support Muslim entrepreneurs by promoting halal products and cultural events.

The projects aim to empower the community economically and culturally, with coordination from the Manila city government.

Atienza, who grew up in a diverse neighborhood with many Muslim neighbors, expressed her personal connection and commitment to fostering unity and support for Manila’s Muslim residents.
