The Department of Foreign Affairs has criticized the Chinese Embassy for suggesting that strained diplomatic relations could cost Filipinos “millions of jobs.”
The DFA said the embassy’s comments risk being seen as coercive and undermining constructive bilateral dialogue.
The remarks followed calls by some Filipino senators to expel China’s ambassador over actions in the South China Sea.
The DFA urged the embassy to adopt a responsible and measured tone while reaffirming its commitment to diplomacy.
Despite formal protests, the embassy has continued its pointed public statements responding to criticism from Philippine lawmakers.
