NAVOTAS Rep. Toby Tiangco has called on Congress to hold a public hearing to expedite the arrest of Zaldy Co, the fugitive ex-congressman linked to the flood control bribery scandal.
Co remains at large despite three arrest warrants issued by the Sandiganbayan, raising questions about which government agency is responsible for enforcing warrants against individuals outside the Philippines.
Tiangco filed House Resolution 808 to examine gaps in legislation and agency coordination that may allow high-profile fugitives to evade justice.
Officials from the DOJ, DILG, DFA, NBI, PNP, Bureau of Immigration, and the Portuguese embassy will be invited to the hearing to discuss enforcement and international cooperation.
Meanwhile, the Sandiganbayan denied Co’s motion for reconsideration to nullify his “fugitive from justice” status, citing late filing and lack of merit.
