THE NEW APOSTOLIC NUNCIO TO THE EU APPOINTED BY POPE, BOHOL BISHOP SELECTED

Pope Francis has appointed 65-year-old Archbishop Bernardito Auza from Bohol as the new apostolic nuncio to the European Union, succeeding Archbishop Noël Treanor, who passed away in August 2024.

Auza will continue his role as apostolic nuncio to Spain and Andorra until transitioning to his new post in Brussels, Belgium.

The Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) has praised Auza’s extensive diplomatic experience and his long-standing commitment to the Holy See’s service.

Auza, originally from Talibon, Bohol, was ordained as a priest in 1985 and later served the newly created Diocese of Talibon.
His appointment is seen as a recognition of his remarkable legacy in diplomatic and ecclesial work.
