Residents of Barangay Tangke in Talisay City, Cebu, have expressed strong opposition to the proposed Seaoil Terminal Facility and Jetty Port Project.
Over 50 individuals, including fisherfolk, fish vendors, electric bike drivers, youth, and other community members, gathered in front of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 office in Cebu City on December 23, 2024, to voice their concerns.
The protesters highlighted potential threats to the marine ecosystem, displacement of residents, and increased fire hazards associated with the project.
Gilbert Socajil, a fisherman, emphasized that the proposed site is near the shore and in a residential area, posing a direct threat to their way of life.
The group carried signs with slogans like “Save Our Seas,” “Protect Our Fishing Grounds,” and “Save Our Seas, Save Our Future,” urging authorities to reconsider the project.
