The government has launched measures to secure fuel and fertilizer supplies for the sugar industry amid concerns that the Middle East conflict could disrupt global petroleum markets, SRA Administrator Pablo Luis Azcona said.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) are coordinating with other agencies to ensure farmers have stable access to these key inputs during the peak harvest season.
Fuel is critical for harvesting, transporting cane, and preparing fields, while fertilizer use ramps up for the next planting cycle.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. confirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining stable supplies for sugar farmers and other agricultural sectors.
Industry officials stressed that stabilizing inputs is essential to protect production and prevent cost pressures from affecting the country’s sugar supply chain.
