A recent World Health Organization report found that 7.2 percent of Filipino women aged 15 to 49 have experienced physical or sexual abuse from a husband or male partner at least once in their lifetime.
About 3.1 percent reported abuse from their partner within the past year, while 2.8 percent experienced non-partner sexual violence at least once.
The study, covering data from 2000 to 2023, highlights that intimate partner violence is one of the most common forms of abuse against women globally.
Globally, 25.8 percent of women aged 15 to 49 have suffered physical or sexual intimate partner violence, with 13.7 percent experiencing it in the past year.
The WHO stressed that violence against women is a pervasive human rights and public health issue that requires urgent action, noting that actual cases may be higher due to underreporting.
