SANDIGANBAYAN DISMISSES FINAL COCO LEVY CASES AGAINST MARCOS ASSOCIATES

The Philippine government has lost its final six ill-gotten wealth cases related to the Coco Levy Fund scam, with the Sandiganbayan dismissing the cases due to inordinate delay and double jeopardy concerns.

The dismissed cases involved former President Ferdinand Marcos, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, former Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile, and businessman Danding Cojuangco.

The Coco Levy Fund scam involved the collection of taxes from coconut farmers during the Marcos era, which were allegedly diverted for personal gain by government officials and their associates.

The dismissal of these cases has sparked criticism from various sectors, including coconut farmers who have long awaited justice and restitution.

The government has yet to announce any plans to appeal the Sandiganbayan’s decision.
