San Juan City made history by winning the grand prize for Best Tourism-Oriented Local Government Unit (LGU) in the highly urbanized city category at the 26th Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) Pearl Awards on October 2.
The annual event honors LGUs for outstanding contributions to Philippine tourism through innovative practices and initiatives.
Mayor Francis Zamora, who also leads the Metro Manila Council, welcomed tourism officers to experience San Juan’s hospitality and historical sites during his acceptance speech.
The awards gathered over a thousand tourism officers from across the country, celebrating excellence in tourism governance.
Other notable winners included Las Piñas for Best Tourism Promotion Video, Muntinlupa for Best Institutionalized Culture and Arts Program, and Pasig for Best Sustainable Tourism Practices.
