Quezon City achieved a perfect 100% compliance score in the latest Department of Energy (DOE) spot-checks, making it the nation’s model for energy efficiency.
The city fully implemented the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP), followed closely by General Santos City, which scored 99% and earned a 5-star rating.
The DOE assessed 224 government entities, which averaged an 86.27% compliance rate, under guidelines requiring a 10–20% reduction in electricity and fuel use.
Energy efficiency measures include keeping air-conditioning at no lower than 24°C, using energy-saving lighting, and adopting fuel-efficient practices for official vehicles.
Officials emphasized that energy conservation in government agencies is vital amid rising global oil prices, with over 1,130 agencies adopting flexible work arrangements to manage demand while maintaining public services.
