The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has recommended canceling the birth certificate of Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo due to fraudulent acquisition, putting her identity and citizenship in question.
Marizza Grande, the PSA assistant national statistician, testified that Guo’s birth registration was “irregular” and lacked supporting documents.
The controversy arose during a Senate panel on human trafficking involving Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs), with suspicions that Guo may have stolen the identity of another woman named Alice Leal Guo.
Senators Risa Hontiveros, JV Ejercito, and Grace Poe highlighted the broader issues tied to POGOs, including corruption, crime, and social disorder. They called for a policy shift or ban on POGO operations.
Guo, who did not attend the Senate inquiry due to health reasons, claimed the allegations and hearings had caused her significant stress and public ridicule.
