The proposed 2026 budget allocates P26.39 billion to Congress, which is over P3 billion less than its initial proposal and lower than its 2025 budget, signaling significant cuts across its offices.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) is also set to receive a reduced budget of P902.8 million for 2026, down from its proposed P2.026 billion in 2025 and P1.783 billion in 2024.
Despite different mandates, both Congress and OVP have been in the spotlight recently due to the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, which stalled and were ultimately dismissed by the Supreme Court.
The impeachment process involved allegations related to the misuse of confidential funds and irregularities in documentation from Duterte’s offices.
Budget hearings for the 2026 National Expenditures Program are scheduled to begin on August 18 as scrutiny continues over the allocation and spending of public funds.
