Sen. Grace Poe highlighted the crucial role of print media in combating online disinformation during her speech at the United Print and Multimedia Group’s meeting.
She emphasized that print media is a “bastion of accountability and responsibility,” offering verified, fact-checked information, unlike the rapid spread of misinformation and disinformation on social media.
Poe explained that while social media’s speed enables viral content, the responsibility for verifying such content lies with journalists, bloggers, and individuals.
According to a global study, print media still holds a strong preference among readers, with many agreeing that they understand stories better when reading in print rather than online.
Poe concluded that print and digital media should complement each other, combining print’s thoroughness with the speed of social media.Source: PhilNews24 | March 30, 2025
