PNP TAKES TOUGH STANCE ON ILLEGAL SIRENS AFTER PRESIDENTIAL ORDER

The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced its intent to tighten enforcement of regulations governing the use of sirens and blinkers following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive banning their use by government officials and personnel.

PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo stated that the PNP would intensify the implementation of Presidential Decree 96, which prohibits installing such devices on private vehicles.

Fajardo assured impartial enforcement regardless of social status, with confiscation of devices upon first offense and potential imprisonment and license cancellation for repeat offenders.

In collaboration with relevant agencies, the PNP also plans to crack down on shops illegally selling these devices. Notably, 2,546 devices were confiscated from January to March, with 7,931 seized in 2023.

Per PD 96, only designated vehicles for official use by military, law enforcement, fire departments, and ambulances are permitted to use such signaling devices.
