Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda is calling for the desilting of the Pampanga River as a long-term solution to the province’s recurring and worsening flooding problems.
Recent rains caused widespread damage, with infrastructure losses estimated at ₱432 million, according to the provincial government and DPWH.
Pineda emphasized that the 34-kilometer river stretch across six towns has become too shallow and clogged, severely reducing its capacity to drain floodwaters.
The DPWH estimates that over ₱1 billion is needed for flood control projects, including dike repairs and river desilting.
Pineda urged national government support, stressing that the issue affects not just infrastructure but also public safety, agriculture, and livelihoods.
