PHILIPPINES SECURES TWO MORE MEDALS AT WORLD VOVINAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Philippines has added two more medals to their collection as Emmanuel Cantores and Jovan Medallo made their way to the podium on Tuesday at the 7th World Vovinam Championships.

Cantores earned the silver medal in the men’s -60kg category, surrendering to Vinh Truong of Vietnam with a score of 1-6, in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

Meanwhile, Medallo secured the bronze medal in the men’s sun-moon broadsword event, marking another impressive third-place finish following a similar achievement at the Cambodia Southeast Asian Games earlier this year.

The remarkable performances of Medallo and Cantores followed the historic triumph of Hergie Bacyadan just two days prior. Bacyadan achieved a groundbreaking victory on the global stage, capturing the gold medal in the women’s -66kg category.

In the final, Bacyadan dominated Mariana Avdeenko, delivering a flawless performance that resulted in a commanding 10-0 victory. This triumph mirrored her semifinal match against Cambodia’s Sophy Sok, where Bacyadan’s powerful blows to the head forced Sok to concede the match.

These recent successes mark significant milestones for the Philippines in the rapidly growing sport of Vovinam.
