The Marcos administration is set to discuss areas of limited cooperation with the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding its investigation into killings during Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said.
While the Philippines is not rejoining the ICC, Remulla emphasized that collaboration within the bounds of the law could help advance the country’s investigations.
Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III welcomed the move, highlighting it as a demonstration of respect for treaty obligations.
The ICC inquiry focuses on incidents from when the Philippines was still a member of the Rome Statute, making cooperation an international commitment.
Previously, the government firmly opposed ICC proceedings, citing sovereignty concerns, but this step signals a softening of its stance.
