Filipina tennis player Alex Eala has had a successful start in both singles and doubles matches at the ITF W50 Pune in India.
In her singles opener, Eala defeated Hungarian player Fanny Stollar with a score of 6-2, 6-2. Despite committing seven double faults, Eala did not drop her serve throughout the match.
She dominated the game, taking control of the set and maintaining her dominance in the second set. Eala also won her opening-round doubles match with Darja Semenistaja. Eala’s mixed doubles partner from the Asian Games, Francis Casey Alcantara, also emerged victorious in his match, partnering with Christopher Rungkat of Indonesia.
They won 6-1, 7-5 against Bernard Tomic and Alexey Shtengelov. Alcantara and Rungkat will face the Israeli pair of Orel Kimhi and Ofek Shimanov in the quarterfinals.
The last time Alcantara and Rungkat teamed up, they won back-to-back ITF men’s doubles titles in Malaysia. Eala and Semenistaja will compete for a semifinal spot in the doubles match against Jessie Anney of the United States and Lena Papadakis of Germany.
