Philippine authorities have urged local fishermen to disregard the presence of China’s “monster ship” near Sabina Shoal and continue their fishing activities within the country’s exclusive economic zone.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported the sighting of the large Chinese vessel, emphasizing that Filipino fishers should assert their rights despite potential intimidation.
PCG spokesman for the West Philippine Sea, Commodore Jay Tarriela, stated that the agency is committed to ensuring the safety of Filipino fishermen in the area.
This development underscores ongoing tensions in the South China Sea, where China’s expansive territorial claims overlap with those of the Philippines and other Southeast Asian nations.
The PCG continues to monitor the situation and has increased patrols to safeguard national interests.
