Banks and e-wallet providers in the Philippines are increasingly targeted by phishing attacks, with the country recording 38,370 such attempts in 2023, according to cybersecurity firm Kaspersky.
This makes the Philippines one of the most targeted nations in Southeast Asia, surpassed only by Indonesia and India.
Cybercriminals often use localized scams that impersonate trusted banks, e-wallet apps, online shops, and even government promotions to deceive victims.
These attacks frequently coincide with major online shopping events like Black Friday, exploiting peak digital activity to steal sensitive information.
Kaspersky warned that improving cybersecurity awareness and digital hygiene is critical to protecting Filipinos, alongside investments in training and threat simulations by organizations.
