Senate President Francis Escudero announced that no additional subsidies will be provided to PhilHealth under the proposed P6.352-trillion national budget for 2025, citing the need to maximize limited resources.
Despite the Senate’s stance, PhilHealth has significant unused funds, which the Supreme Court has prevented from being transferred to the national treasury.
Escudero pointed out that unused subsidies lose value due to inflation, estimating a loss of about P20 billion annually.
He questioned the prudence of PhilHealth requesting a larger budget when it has not fully utilized its current allocation.
Meanwhile, PhilHealth reported releasing P117.6 billion in claims from January to September 2023, a 27% increase from the previous year.
