PhilHealth urged its members to seek medical consultation for animal bites, highlighting its expanded Animal Bite Treatment (ABT) package, now increased from ₱3,000 to ₱5,850.
The package covers essential treatments, including rabies vaccines, wound care, and antibiotics, and is available in over 700 accredited facilities nationwide.
PhilHealth President Dr. Edwin Mercado emphasized that rabies is fatal but preventable with immediate vaccination.
The Department of Health reported that the Philippines ranks sixth globally in rabies cases, with 426 deaths recorded in 2024.
Authorities reminded the public to vaccinate pets as the first step in rabies prevention.
