The Philippines and Singapore have begun negotiations to update their 1977 Double Taxation Agreement (DTA) to better reflect the demands of the modern economy and strengthen bilateral investment ties.
The first round of talks took place from September 2 to 4 in Manila, focusing on eliminating double taxation and preventing tax evasion.
Singapore’s ambassador highlighted the growing trade and investment relationship, noting a 14 percent increase in Singaporean foreign direct investments in the Philippines over five years.
DOF Assistant Secretary Dakila Elteen Napao led the Philippine delegation, while Inland Revenue Authority official Angela Ang represented Singapore.
Finance Secretary Ralph Recto emphasized the importance of recalibrating the DTA to align with current global economic realities and the strong ties between the two countries.
