PH MARKS 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF PHILIPPINE-AMERICAN WAR

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) marked the 125th anniversary of the Philippine-American War with a ceremony in Sampaloc, Manila.

A flag-raising and wreath-laying event occurred at the site of the first clash between Philippine and US Army forces. Historia Vivente Manila reenacted the initial shots of the conflict.

ACT Teachers Party-list Representative France Castro, the guest of honor, emphasized the ongoing struggle for true freedom and sovereignty. She urged resistance against any encroachment on Philippine sovereignty and stressed the importance of remembering those who sacrificed during the war.

The war began on February 4, 1899, following the Treaty of Paris, as the US sought control over the Philippine archipelago.

The NHCP highlighted the resistance against US imperialism led by the First Philippine Republic and various resistance movements.

The commemoration is part of the 125th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood, honoring events from 1898 to 1901.
