A Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel successfully held its position against a China Coast Guard (CCG) ship near Zambales on March 8, preventing it from approaching the coastline.
Despite rough sea conditions, BRP Cabra maintained its stance, keeping the CCG vessel more than 95 nautical miles away.
The PCG continues to challenge what it calls the illegal presence of Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea, citing violations of international and domestic laws.
PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan emphasized that these deployments aim to prevent China from altering the status quo within the country’s exclusive economic zone.
The PCG reaffirmed its commitment to defending Philippine territory, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive.
