PCO FILES CHARGES VS FAKE NEWS PEDDLERS AMID ENERGY CRISIS

Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez has filed charges before the Department of Justice against individuals behind fake online advisories amid the national energy emergency linked to the Middle East conflict.

Acting on the directive of Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the PCO accused pages such as “Malasakit News Pilipinas” of spreading false claims about an “energy lockdown,” fuel shortages, and a fake health emergency to cause panic.

Gomez said the disinformation campaign violates laws on false news and cybercrime, carrying possible imprisonment and higher penalties when committed online.

The cases stem from investigations by the PCO’s Anti-Fake-News Desk under its “Oplan Kontra Fake News” initiative.

Authorities also vowed intensified monitoring and zero tolerance for those spreading misinformation that threatens public safety and energy stability.
