PCG INTERCEPTS CHINESE VESSEL OFF ZAMBALES COAST

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confronted a China Coast Guard vessel that entered the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) near Zambales over the weekend.

PCG spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela said BRP Cabra issued a radio challenge to the CCG-3302 after detecting it 83 to 85 nautical miles off Palauig, Zambales.

The PCG asserted the Philippines’ sovereign rights, citing violations of the Philippine Maritime Zones Act, UNCLOS, and the 2016 Arbitral Award.

Despite the size difference between the vessels, the PCG stood firm in enforcing maritime laws.

Tarriela reiterated the PCG’s commitment to patrolling Philippine waters while adhering to a policy of non-escalation and non-provocation.
