President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated that the Philippines must do more than protest China’s “illegal actions” in the South China Sea.
This follows an incident where Chinese Coast Guard personnel boarded Filipino navy boats, disrupting a resupply mission to the BRP Sierra Madre at Ayungin Shoal.
Although no guns were fired, Marcos labeled the act a deliberate and illegal intervention.
He emphasized that over 100 protests have already been filed, and additional measures are needed.
The clashes have raised concerns about potential U.S. involvement due to a mutual defense pact with the Philippines.
