President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening maritime education and improving deployment conditions for Filipino seafarers, calling them a “global asset” and “national pride.”
In his message for the annual Day of the Seafarer, he emphasized the government’s duty to support their welfare and recognize their vital role in global trade.
The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) was highlighted as key to equipping and protecting the maritime workforce.
The Department of Foreign Affairs also pledged to advance safe and decent living conditions for seafarers and announced that the Philippines will host the International Conference on Seafarers’ Human Rights, Safety, and Well-Being.
With over 500,000 Filipino seafarers deployed worldwide, the country continues to be a leading source of maritime workers and supports the International Maritime Organization’s campaign against harassment at sea.
