The government is reviewing Republic Act 11524, the Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund Act, to consider possible amendments aimed at further developing the coconut industry, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced during a visit to a coconut plant in General Santos City.
The proposed changes seek to enhance programs that accelerate coconut planting and expansion, supporting the livelihood of coconut farmers.
Marcos has directed the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Trade and Industry, and the Philippine Coconut Authority to expand seed farms, distribute hybrid seedlings, encourage investments, and explore new coconut products.
The government is also monitoring the implementation of the revised Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) 2024-2028, which focuses on social protection, capacity building, and infrastructure support for farmers.
Additionally, Marcos approved a PHP3.5 billion budget for massive planting, replanting, and fertilization programs targeting 100 million coconut trees by 2028.
